Salted Caramel Butter Sauce

I am crazy about the combination of salt and caramel; it has that lovely bit of salt and the richness of caramel without being too sweet.  I grew up as a total milk chocolate fiend, so my tastes have definitely changed over the years!



Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup salted butter
2/3 cup half and half
1 tsp. sea salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
1.  Melt sugar is a sauce pan over medium heat, stirring often.
2.  When the sugar starts to crumble, add the butter and stir.
3.  Stir until the butter and sugar are melted and smooth.
4.  Add the half and half and continue cooking until you have a smooth, thick sauce.
5.  Remove from heat and stir in sea salt and vanilla.

This is amazing with ice cream, cake, waffles, a spoon dipped straight into the jar . . .
